Pick up the handheld. Scan the carton. Put it down so both hands can lift the box. Pick it up again to confirm the quantity. A scanner can read perfectly while the surrounding routine still wastes effort. That is a useful starting point for looking at Unitech: which device fits the way people actually work?
Its current range spans large touchscreens, physical keypads, wrist-worn computers and dedicated RFID configurations. The interesting question is where each format removes a step, and where it introduces a compromise. This guide examines six selected Unitech mobile devices using official material checked on 15 October 2026.
A current lineup, with meaningful differences
Recent updates matter as much as new hardware. Unitech announced the EA660’s Android 15 upgrade on 18 May 2026 and the EA530 series’ Android Enterprise Recommended status on 29 July 2026. Those are dated software and certification developments, rather than evidence that every device below first launched this year. EA660 upgrade announcement · EA530 certification announcement.
| Device | Work to consider | Distinction to check |
|---|---|---|
| PA768 | Mobile work needing a larger display. | 6.3-inch touch device; AI-capable platform and capture functions. |
| EA660 | Retail, logistics and mobile data collection. | 6-inch screen; 5G and optional longer-range barcode engine. |
| EA530 | Store and operational tasks. | 4G touch handheld; battery replacement and RFID choices vary by model. |

This is a practical shortlist, not a complete Unitech catalog, regional stock check or compatibility certificate. Ask for a quotation with the actual scanner, radio, battery, accessories and software versions identified.
PA768: give a large business form enough room
The PA768 is positioned as a rugged AI touch computer. Its current specification lists Android 14, a Snapdragon 6490 platform, a 6.3-inch display, 5G and Wi-Fi 6E. Unitech advertises multi-scan capture of up to ten barcodes and a hot-swappable 5,100 mAh battery. The detailed table describes an Android 16 upgrade path; confirm released firmware for the proposed unit. PA768 product information.
A larger screen can help when a worker needs the item description, quantity and exception options together. Try a receiving task with two similar products and a damaged carton. The operator should be able to identify the right record and make a correction without hunting through several screens.
The AI label needs a specific demonstration. Processor capability does not establish that a useful recognition model, license or business integration is included. For multi-scan, demonstrate how the software selects the intended codes and excludes a neighbouring label. More captured data only helps when it belongs in the transaction.
EA660: choose the engine for the distance you use
The EA660 currently lists Android 15, a 6-inch display, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and a removable 5,000 mAh battery. Its optional long-range engine is advertised for barcode reading up to 12 meters. That is a manufacturer maximum for an option, not a measured working distance for every configuration or label. EA660 specifications and options.
Build the trial around your labels. Include the small shelf code, the carton label behind plastic wrap and the location label high above the aisle. Check how easily the operator aims at the right target. A read at the far end of the advertised range is of limited value if adjacent labels are difficult to distinguish.
Unitech also describes OCR through its USS software. Use it on a real lot number or document, including poor printing and more than one possible field. Agree how uncertain text is corrected and validated before it enters stock or delivery records. Recognition and a complete business workflow are separate parts of the project.
EA530: a store handheld needs a sensible shift routine
The EA530 combines a 6-inch display with 4G, Wi-Fi 6E and Android 15. Unitech specifies a quick-release 4,250 mAh battery and optional UHF capability. Its global page explicitly limits warm swapping to the standard 4G and Wi-Fi models: the UHF model does not support it. EA530 model details and battery caveat.
That qualification belongs in the purchasing conversation. A store that plans to exchange batteries during a busy shift needs the procedure demonstrated on the exact unit it will buy. Include login state, an unfinished transaction and the time required to return to work.
For retail, let staff alternate between a price check, receiving stock and answering an item-location question. Observe whether the screen and controls support the transitions. Avoid buying an extra capture option simply because it appears on the family page; attach it to a task and an application that will use it.

HT730 Plus: keypads and cold rooms deserve their own test
The HT730 Plus Wi-Fi version lists Android 14, Wi-Fi 6E and 29-, 38- or 47-key layouts. Unitech advertises scanning up to 32 meters and an optional heated cold-chain configuration for operation down to −30°C. Confirm the engine, heater and operating conditions for the quoted part number; these are vendor limits, not results from our testing. HT730 Plus Wi-Fi details.
Physical keys can suit repeated quantity entry and existing keyboard-driven applications. Test the less tidy parts of the job: correcting a digit, entering a short code and rejecting the wrong location. Gloves and screen glare belong in that trial too.
For cold storage, move repeatedly between temperature zones under the supplier’s approved conditions. Check visibility, condensation, battery handling and how quickly normal work resumes. A heated configuration should be evaluated as a complete cold-chain setup, with appropriate accessories, rather than inferred from a ruggedness badge.
HT730 Plus UHF: an RFID read is a different event
The HT730 Plus UHF is a separate Android 14 terminal with an Impinj E710 reader, Gen2X support and barcode capture. Its published RFID range reaches up to 25 meters; its listed sealing is IP65. Do not copy the Wi-Fi barcode model’s range or protection specifications into this configuration. HT730 Plus UHF specifications.
RFID can collect tagged items without individually aiming at each barcode, but that changes the problem the application must solve. Demonstrate how the system excludes the adjacent trolley, deduplicates repeated reads and handles a tag that is present but belongs to another location. Tag placement, materials and the intended read zone need testing together.
A useful pilot measures a completed, reconciled count. A fast stream of tag identifiers is only one part of that result.
WD200 Plus: reduce the handling around the scan
The WD200 Plus is a 123g wearable computer with a 3.54-inch display, Android 13 and Wi-Fi 6. Its page describes camera-based barcode capture and lists companion scanners including the MS633 ring scanner. Treat the wearable computer and a separate scanner as a chosen setup, with its own pairing and charging routine. WD200 Plus specifications and accessories.
Its potential appeal is easy to understand during carton handling: the application stays on the wrist while both hands return to the goods. The trade-off is a smaller screen. Keep instructions short and check whether quantity corrections remain comfortable late in a shift.
Try the setup across several users and ordinary tasks, including re-pairing after a scanner change. Record missed confirmations, screen touches and the handling movements removed. A wearable earns its place through the whole routine, including the moments when something goes wrong.
Check the support calendar before buying another fleet
Unitech’s Shield table separates standard support from extended patch periods. At the check date, the EA530 row lists October 2029 and September 2032 respectively; the EA660 row lists October 2028 and September 2031. Extended Shield patches depend on upstream critical fixes becoming available. These are published model schedules to confirm, not a fresh full support term starting on your purchase date. Unitech Shield schedules and conditions.
There is also a documentation wrinkle: the EA530 product page retains an AER-pending bullet while the dated July announcement confirms the series’ certification. Use the current certification record and a written configuration-specific answer for procurement. Generic feature copy can lag behind an announcement.
Ask who will stage the fleet, test updates and restore a repaired unit. For a Raptool project, demonstrate the intended barcode input, optional RFID or OCR route and backend transaction on the proposed hardware. Neither an Android version nor a listed management tool establishes that application compatibility.
Count the seconds around the barcode
Time a complete valid transaction with the existing setup, then repeat it with the shortlisted device. Include picking up and putting down equipment, correcting a quantity and waiting for confirmation. Keep the accuracy requirement the same.
Small handling savings can add up over a year.
Assume a tested change saves 3 seconds on 800 transactions a day over 250 working days. That releases about 167 labor-hours annually. At €30 per hour, the result is €5,000 of labor capacity before equipment, software, integration and support costs. These are hypothetical inputs, not a Unitech benchmark or a cash-saving forecast.
Capacity might shorten a queue or clear a backlog while payroll stays the same. A cash-saving case needs a demonstrable reduction in paid expenditure and the full cost of the change. Avoid adding a separate productivity benefit for the same seconds.
The purchasing decision should end with a demonstrated workflow: the right label read, the right quantity entered and the business system updated. Let operators run that sequence with the touch handheld, keypad or wearable that suits their shift.
